APBCR stands for Aadhaar Payment Bridge Credit Receipt. It is mainly used in transactions, statements, passbooks, etc, when the amount is received through APBS. It is an NPCI-managed infrastructure that the Government of India uses for DBT payments. If there is any transaction in your bank account with APBCR, it means the amount is received from government schemes through DBT. In this article, we will discuss APBCR in more detail.

How do APBCR Transactions Work?

APBCR transactions are carried out in various steps as mentioned below: 

  • Aadhaar Seeding: Beneficiaries need to link their Aadhaar card to their bank accounts. Then the bank uploads it to the NPCI mapper. This makes the account Aadhaar-enabled for the direct bank transfer process.
  • Government Payment Issue: The government ministry makes a file of beneficiaries and their Aadhaar numbers. They also contain their payment amounts. The ministry then submits the file to the NCPI through PFMS.
  • NPCI routing through APBS: At NPCI, the officials use the Aadhaar mapper to check the bank account of the beneficiary and their Aadhaar number. It then routes the payment instructions to their bank accounts.
  • Bank Credits Account: The beneficiary’s bank receives the payment and transfers it to the concerned bank account. The bank makes entries under APBCR, marking it in the account statement.
  • SMS Confirmation: The beneficiary receives an SMS on their registered mobile numbers regarding their successful amount transfer.

Key Features of APBCR

The major features of APBCR are: 

  • Appears in Credit Entry: The APBCR is always mentioned as a credit because the amount is received in the bank. It is marked as a debit in bank statements.
  • DBT: The payment mentioned as APBCR in the passbook and statements is transferred from the government DBT via NPCI’s Aadhaar Payment Bridge.
  • Aadhaar Card is Mandatory: The beneficiary needs to link the bank account with the Aadhaar card to receive the amount successfully. In case the Aadhaar card is linked to multiple banks, the most recently mapped account receives the money.
  • High Success Rate: This process of money transfer has a 99.55% success rate as compared to account number-based payment methods.
