The post office runs from Monday to Friday. Employees take a 1-hour lunch break. The post office operates from 8 AM to 4 PM generally. Post office lunch time is from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM. The Director General of Posts is responsible for administering the postal department in India. 

The Indian postal department is divided into 16 postal circles under the postmaster general. The post offices are divided into Sub-post offices and E.D. branch post offices.
